Abstract

In this research, we review Geometrical Dilution of Precision (GDOP) mathematical representation into volume modelling estimation. We derive the GDOP volume expression based on several assumptions and analyze the characteristic of this new expression using MatLab Simulation. We propose this topic due to the high demand on low cost deep space mission especially the lunar satellites navigation. By implementing this new approach of calculating the GDOP, the cost of handling the big antennas and complicated ground station protocol problems may be reduced. The utilization of small ground stations especially by low cost space company such as Surrey Satellite Technology Limited (SSTL) and the ease of GDOP measurement approach introduced in this research may be a very useful platform in the near future. This research begins with the introduction to the evolvement and history of satellite navigation systems around the space technology environment. We apply GPS mathematical approach of positioning estimation and DSN ground based navigation method to our GDOP volume derivation. We also suggest at the end chapter of the content about the possibility of manipulation the ground station orientation in timebased analysis to improve the derived GDOP reading.
